In Solidarity with the Brave Souls: Peng Lifa and Fang Yirong

2022年10月13日，北京四通桥。一位中年男子爬上桥顶，挂出震惊全国、撼动世界的横幅：“不要核酸要吃饭，不要封控要自由！”“罢课罢工罢免独裁国贼习近平！”这是二十大召开前最刺耳、最真实的呐喊。
彭立发，一个电气工程师、维权公民，孤身登高，用鲜红横幅，揭开了一个时代的压抑与愤怒。然后他被迅速带走，从此音讯全无。他的名字和事迹在中国被封锁、被删除、被抹去，但他种下的种子，在“白纸运动”中开花。无数青年走上街头，举起白纸，接过他的呐喊——他不是一个人，他是一粒火种在中国遍地开花！
2024年7月30日，湖南娄底新化县，一位22岁的大学生方艺融在天桥上悬挂了模仿北京四通桥“反习”横幅，并用扩音器播放“要自由、要民主、要选票”等口号，标语内容包括“不要特权要平等”、“不要封控要自由”等。方艺融在视频中说：“暴政必然可怕,但权威压不垮人心,习近平再怎么迫害我们,也阻止不了民主思想在中国人心中一次又一次生根发芽,长江之水不会倒流……我可能会被宣布精神病,也可能死在监狱里,但我不会后悔。”
他们没有政党背景，没有金钱支持，没有组织庇护；
他们没有伤害他人，只是喊了自己的心声；
他们不图名、不求利，只求国家清醒，人民觉醒。
然而，他们却因此失去自由。
我们呼吁：立即公开方艺融、彭立发的关押情况，保障他们的法律权利与人身安全，立即无条件释放他们！
方艺融、彭立发不是孤身一人，因为我们和他们站在一起。去年的今天我们在这里抗议，声援他们，今年我们依然站在这里为他们奔走疾呼！暴政独裁不亡，我们为民主，自由，平等奋斗不息！
喊出我们今天的口号：
不要核酸，要吃饭！
不要封控，要自由！
不要谎言，要尊严！
不要文革，要改革！
不要领袖，要选票！
不做奴才，做公民！
罢课！罢工！罢免独裁国贼习近平！

Abstract:
On October 13, 2022, at Beijing’s Sitong Bridge, a middle-aged man climbed to the top of the overpass and unfurled banners that shocked the nation and shook the world:
“We want food, not COVID tests!
We want freedom, not lockdowns!
Strike school, strike work, remove the dictator and national traitor Xi Jinping!”
This was the loudest and truest cry heard before the 20th Party Congress.
Peng Lifa, an electrical engineer and rights defender, stood alone atop the bridge, raising blood-red banners that tore open an era’s suffocating repression and outrage. He was swiftly taken away, and has not been heard from since. His name and his actions have been censored, deleted, and erased from inside China. But the seeds he planted bloomed during the White Paper Movement, when countless young people took to the streets, held up blank sheets of paper, and carried forward his cry.
He was not alone — he was a spark, igniting a fire across all of China.
On July 30, 2024, in Xinhua County, Loudi City, Hunan Province, 22-year-old university student Fang Yirong hung banners on an overpass, mirroring the anti-Xi protest at Sitong Bridge. Using a loudspeaker, he broadcast slogans such as:
“We want freedom, we want democracy, we want the right to vote.”
His banners read:
“We want equality, not privilege.”
“We want freedom, not lockdowns.”
In his video, Fang declared:
“Tyranny is terrifying, yes — but authority cannot crush the human spirit. No matter how Xi Jinping persecutes us, he cannot stop democratic ideals from taking root again and again in the hearts of the Chinese people. The Yangtze River will not flow backward…
I may be declared mentally ill, I may die in prison — but I will not regret it.”
They have no political party behind them.
No financial support.
No organizational protection.
They harmed no one — they simply spoke their hearts.
They seek no fame, no fortune — only national clarity and people’s awakening.
Yet for this, they lost their freedom.
We call on the world to act:
Immediately disclose the detention status of Fang Yirong and Peng Lifa,
Ensure their legal rights and personal safety,
And release them unconditionally at once!
Fang Yirong and Peng Lifa are not alone, because we stand with them.
Last year, on this very day, we were here protesting in their support.
This year, we are still here, shouting for their freedom!
As long as tyranny and dictatorship remain,
We will never stop fighting for democracy, freedom, and equality.
Let us proclaim today’s rallying cries:
We want food, not COVID tests!
We want freedom, not lockdowns!
We want dignity, not lies!
We want reform, not another Cultural Revolution!
We want ballots, not “supreme leaders”!
We will not be slaves — we are citizens!
Strike school! Strike work! Remove the dictator and national traitor Xi Jinping!
