高墙能高过记忆;
铁门能重过良知;
也许很安静;

Snow Cannot Fall into the Night Forever
—In memory of Li Yixue
By Lu Huiwen
Your name,
Is Yixue—suitable for snow.
Yet later,
What people remembered
Was not the snow,
But the harsh winter.
When you stepped forward,
You held no knife,
You held no fire.
You merely held up
Your own wounds.
Wounds do not lie,
Yet there are always those
Who fear the truth even more than wounds.
And so,
Some ordered you to stay silent,
Some declared you insane.
Later,
They sent a person who kept crying out
Into total silence.
They hope
That high walls can rise higher than memory;
That iron gates can weigh heavier than conscience;
That time can bury a name.
But they do not know
That snow,
The more it is trampled into the mud,
The clearer the footprints it leaves behind.
I do not know
Where you are today.
I only know
That a name
Once appeared in the wind time and again,
And later,
Suddenly vanished.
The disappearance of a person
May be very quiet;
But an era,
If it even begins to fear questioning,
That is true silence.
Some fear your voice,
Not because it is loud,
But because
It is real.
Real pain,
Real tears,
Real shed blood,
Real belief, once held,
That justice still exists in this world.
And so,
They do not debate with you,
Nor answer your questions;
Instead, they hope
That the world forgets your name.
Yet,
A name can be deleted,
Memory cannot.
A voice can be muted,
An echo cannot.
A person can be taken away,
But a question
Cannot be taken away.
It will remain in people’s hearts,
Remain after every silence,
Remain in every gaze that dares not look directly.
Li Yixue,
If one day
You can still see snow,
Please tell it:
Do not fall too lightly.
Because on this land,
There are still many people
Waiting for a snowfall.
Not for the winter,
But to prove—
That in this world,
Purity still remains.
