Speaking of Citizens: What Is a Citizen?
Author: Zuo Zhihai
In classical civilization, the original meaning of a citizen was one who submitted to no person and possessed the right to participate in ruling.
At that time, human society was defined by blood and slaughter—a stark relation between rulers and the ruled. Beyond rulers such as nobles, senators, generals, priests, and ordinary citizens, there existed a vast number of people who possessed no right to participate in ruling, or were even directly ruled over. Examples included conquered foreigners, slaves, women, and other commoners.
In modern society, a citizen has evolved into one who is ruled by no person and possesses the right to participate in national and social public affairs. Why has such an evolution occurred?
Because a major hallmark of the modernization of human society is the complete disappearance and total elimination of both rulers and the ruled. Ruling and being ruled have become acts of barbarism and ignorance: ruling others is barbarism, and being ruled by others is ignorance. In a modern society and within a civilized state, based upon human rights, no single individual possesses the power to rule over another, nor should any individual submit to the rule of another. Citizens do not possess the power to rule over others either; however, citizens possess the right not to be ruled by anyone, as well as the right to participate in managing national and social public affairs—that is, citizens possess the right to govern themselves: civic self-governance. (Here, you may also understand this as the publicization of ruling power: in feudal society, ruling power belonged to private entities such as the Son of Heaven and feudal princes; in the imperial era, ruling power belonged to private entities such as the emperor and the imperial clan; in autocratic society, ruling power belongs to private political parties; whereas in modern society, ruling power belongs to the public and to the entire citizenry.)
A modern society is neither a society of imperial or royal power, nor an autocratic, oligarchic, warlord-dominated, party-autocratic, or totalitarian society; rather, it is a society of equality for all and civic self-governance. States and governments belonging to imperial dynasties, royal courts, dictatorial regimes, or autocratic political parties no longer exist; in their place are public governments established by citizens pursuant to the “Constitution.” The purpose of this public government’s existence is not to control citizens, let alone to rule over citizens, but solely to execute the will of citizens, to serve the self-governance of citizens, to safeguard and guarantee the rights and interests of citizens, and to handle national and social public affairs.
In a civil society, citizens’ rights are greater than governmental power, because citizens’ rights are conferred by the “Constitution.” The government possesses no power to formulate policies or regulations that infringe upon or restrict citizens’ rights, and even less power to make actions or decisions that restrict or infringe upon citizens’ rights, as doing so constitutes a violation of the Constitution.
Furthermore, how much power this government possesses depends entirely on how much authorization citizens grant through the “Constitution.” If citizens grant no authorization whatsoever, the government possesses no power at all. That is to say, the government has no power to tell citizens what to do, nor does it have the power to prescribe or restrict the behavior of citizens; conversely, citizens possess the right to tell the government what to do, and citizens possess the right to prescribe and restrict the behavior of the government through the “Constitution,” including how this public government is formed and how public officials are produced, both of which are authorized and prescribed by citizens through the “Constitution.”
Moreover, if citizens are dissatisfied with this government, citizens also possess the right to replace it or establish another government in accordance with the “Constitution.”
The legislative bodies, police, procuratorates, courts, and military of a modern society are also granted their power and duties by citizens through the “Constitution.” Without the authorization of citizens, they possess no power whatsoever. Like the government, they can act only within the scope authorized by citizens. Once they engage in actions that exceed the authorization of citizens, that constitutes an unlawful crime, and accountability must be initiated against the heads of these functional departments and relevant responsible personnel.
In a modern society, no individual possesses privileges, nor is any privileged class permitted to exist, nor is any exploiting class allowed to exist. From the head of state, provincial governors, mayors, and county magistrates, down to township heads, town mayors, village heads, and representatives of public opinion at all levels, all positions are held by ordinary citizens and can only be produced through election by citizens. Without an election by citizens, no individual possesses the power to hold these elected positions. If you have the ability to serve this country and society well, have the ability to safeguard the rights and interests of citizens, and have the willingness to step forward to serve, citizens will elect you; if you do not have this ability or harbor ulterior motives, citizens can also remove you from office—this is the right of citizens.
At this point, you might feel: do you mean that this government, legislative bodies, police, prosecutors, judges, and the military cannot control citizens at all? Wouldn’t that be disastrous? Wouldn’t citizens then become utterly lawless? What if citizens commit murder or arson?
Here, first of all, citizens are independent. Citizens do not need to submit to any person, nor do they need to submit to any organization or institution. Be it an emperor, a king, a dictator, or a government, a political party, relevant departments, or leaders, citizens do not need to submit to any of them, and citizens even less need to accept the leadership of any person or organization.
Next, what citizens uphold is equality. In a civil society, citizens are equal among themselves; everyone possesses the same political rights and political obligations. Regardless of whether your net worth is one hundred million or you have only one yuan in your pocket, regardless of whether you are an expert, a professor, a worker, or a peasant, your political rights and status, interests, and obligations are identical to mine. All possess the same right to vote and to stand for election, as well as the same voting rights and the right to participate in and supervise state government and public affairs.
In a civil society, no single citizen has the power to place themselves above other citizens, nor does any citizen possess more rights than another.
Citizens are also equal with these state institutions and those public officials. In a civil society, there are no privileges, no leaders, and no imperial officials’ offices or officials. Civil society even less has special provisions reserved for leaders, special supply lines for leaders, priority enjoyment for leaders, golden social security cards, leaders committing crimes and self-penalizing with three glasses of wine, leaders sleeping with underage girls not being called rape, leaders’ sons and daughters scoring 179 points to get into tier-one universities, Union Medical College four-year shortcut doctorate titles, radish recruitments tailored for civil servants, public institutions, and state-owned enterprise posts, children of leaders’ relatives being the only ones who can enter the tobacco company, let alone a hereditary Agricultural Development Bank of China.
Those public officials were all elected by citizens. If anyone dares to consider themselves a leader or an official master, if anyone dares to demand the enjoyment of leaders’ or officials’ privileges, or display the demeanor of a leader or official master to oppress and insult citizens, then citizens possess the right to vote them out and pursue liability for their behavior. As for things like corruption and bribery, abuse of power, seeking personal gain through official power, and consumption with public funds, those need not even be mentioned; as long as they exist, citizens have the right to put them behind bars until they rot.
Citizens hold that human beings are not livestock; human beings do not need to be managed by other people or organizations. They hold that only slaves and lackeys need to be managed by others. This, in fact, embodies the civic consciousness of freedom and the spirit of civic freedom.
Most Chinese people do not understand what freedom is. Freedom is actually a right—a right not to be managed by any person or any organization.
You have the right not to be bossed around, shouted at, and micromanaged by any person, organization, leader, or official; you have the right to no longer act servilely, obsequiously, and sycophantically toward any person, organization, leader, or official—this is freedom, true freedom.
However, we Chinese people, from the Qin and Han dynasties down to the present for over two thousand years, except for those emperors and ruthless warlords, have never enjoyed such freedom; most people do not even dare to imagine such freedom, because they would feel it is high treason and outrageous. This is also why we Chinese people today find freedom so difficult to comprehend and understand, because the genes in our bodies have essentially forgotten what kind of experience and taste freedom is.
Citizens never obey management, nor do they need to be managed, and even less do they need the leadership of any organization; instead, they obey only one thing, and that is the “Constitution.” The reason why citizens accept the management of executive departments, legislative bodies, and judicial organs is based solely on the agreements and promises made by citizens within the “Constitution.” Moreover, here, the management of citizens by these state organs and departments is not the management of subjects by officials, but merely the service management of property management for property owners.
So then, why must citizens obey the “Constitution”? How did the “Constitution” come into being, and who drafted it?
While this “Constitution” is called a law, in reality, the “Constitution” is simply an agreement among citizens. It is a charter formulated when all citizens of a country sit down together to pool ideas, deliberate, discuss, and ultimately fix through voting. Then, the charter that everyone jointly agrees all citizens must obey, maintain, and defend is the “Constitution.”
Yes, the “Constitution” is a contract and a charter jointly agreed upon by citizens, which all citizens must jointly obey, maintain, and defend. It stipulates the rights and interests of citizens as well as the responsibilities and obligations of citizens; it stipulates how citizens should exercise their rights and how they should fulfill their civic duties; it stipulates how citizens should manage their own country, how legislation should be conducted, and what procedures must be followed to establish which laws (such as defining what constitutes a crime and how crimes should be punished); it stipulates how public governments, legislative bodies, police, procuratorates, courts, and the military should be constructed, as well as how elections should be conducted, including the emergence, impeachment, and replacement of citizens’ representatives of public opinion, heads of state, provincial governors, mayors, county magistrates, and township and village heads; and it stipulates the reasons and purposes for which citizens frame and enact a constitution, as well as the procedures for amending the constitution, among other things.
The essence of the “Constitution” is the rules of the state. Whoever holds the power to frame, amend, and abolish the constitution holds the state. In a modern society, the rules of the state are in the hands of the citizens.
Previously, you might not have quite understood why these modern countries and citizens advocate the “spirit of contract” so strongly. That is because even the very bedrock of their governance of the state exists and is agreed upon in the form of contracts and agreements among all citizens. What their spirit of contract maintains is actually not just private agreements between citizens, but, more importantly, the obedience to and defense of the “Constitution.”
Do you see now? It is not that citizens will fall into chaos or lose control without the party and government managing them, or without leaders and officials managing them. Only slaves and lackeys fall into chaos and lose control without a master to manage them.
Citizens are human beings; they are neither slaves, lackeys, nor livestock, and they do not need to be managed. Citizens possess full intelligence and capability, as well as the right, to manage themselves. It is simply untrue that without a political party to manage them, they would become lawless.
Those who feel that without the party and government managing it, this society would become disordered, chaotic, and out of control, and who feel fearful and insecure without the party and government managing them, are actually acting out of the enslaved servility deep within their hearts. A slave is a slave precisely because a slave does not dare to make decisions for themselves. For a slave, losing a master means losing their backbone; without a master, they feel terrified, distressed, aimless, and uneasy, as if the sky were falling. They do not dare to face the uncertainties of this world alone; they fear the unknown tomorrow and everything on the outside, and they do not dare to face life on their own. They need to be managed and require others to take responsibility for them; only by hastily finding themselves a new master can they regain peace of mind and feel grounded.
Slaves cannot comprehend a world without masters either. Therefore, when they see someone refusing to yield to their master, they can only assume that this person must have sought refuge with a new master on the outside. A slave cannot imagine that a person can live independently, autonomously, and without enslaving others.
The very first step to becoming a citizen is learning to be independent, learning to think, learning to discern the truth, learning to bravely make decisions for oneself, learning to strive for one’s own rights and interests, learning to assume civic responsibilities, and learning to participate in managing one’s own country and society.
This model—wherein the “Constitution” agreed upon by all citizens serves as the supreme standard and fundamental law for governing the state—is also known as “constitutionalism.” Under this constitutionalist system, citizens firmly hold the power of the state in their own hands through the “Constitution”—via the power of constitution-making, the right to vote, the right to stand for election, voting rights, initiative rights, the right to referendum on major state affairs, and the power of supervision. Therefore, their government is merely a public government subordinate to all citizens, serving citizens, and managed by citizens; similarly, their legislative bodies, police, procuratorates, courts, and military are public departmental institutions that likewise belong to, serve, protect, and are managed by citizens.
Therefore, in a modern society, citizens are the true masters of the state.
Currently, many Chinese people who have freed themselves from the ideological control of the Chinese Communist Party long to establish a civil society and yearn for democracy, freedom, constitutionalism, and republicanism. However, most of us do not possess the qualities and spirit of citizens, and this is actually the reason why so many of us Chinese have failed in our anti-communist efforts and pro-democracy movements for so many years.
The Japanese thinker Fukuzawa Yukichi once said, “For a state to achieve modernization, the modernization of thought comes first.” But unfortunately, most Chinese people today still have too shallow an understanding of common sense regarding modern thought and concepts such as citizens and constitutionalism. Only when we first acquire modern thought, along with the qualities and spirit of citizens, can we truly strive for civil rights and truly realize political modernization in China.
In my personal view, if we Chinese people wish to become citizens at present, we still need to focus on cultivating the following points:
1,Learn to think independently
Ideologically, every citizen has the right to independently form their own thoughts and judgments, and the right to independently express their own opinions, viewpoints, and propositions, without having to submit to any authority. Citizens even less need to accept anyone’s leadership or listen to the Party’s words.
Therefore, to become a citizen, you must learn to think, learn to reason, verify, and judge, and you must have your own opinions, viewpoints, and propositions. Currently, however, most Chinese people can only repeat other people’s opinions, viewpoints, and propositions, lacking their own thought and judgment. If you don’t believe it, think back on how many of the socio-political viewpoints, propositions, and historical facts you hold were actually arrived at through your own thinking and judgment, and how many were merely heard or read about. In fact, hearing or reading about them doesn’t matter, because everyone begins learning by hearing and seeing; however, you cannot directly absorb and accept them in this manner, nor can you directly assume that what you have heard and seen constitutes absolute truth and fact. Instead, you must think about, analyze, and verify the things you have heard and seen, and make your judgment regarding these things without being influenced by others. This includes everything I am telling you—you must also use your own brain to think, analyze, gather evidence, and verify. Only afterward should you confirm whether what I said is right or wrong, identify my errors, supplement where my account falls short, and then enrich, associate, and apply these results of your thinking and verification to other matters. In this way, over time, you will be able to form your own opinions, viewpoints, and propositions.
2,Learn to decide for yourself
As a man, you should not place your hopes and wishes upon others, nor should you hope that others or political parties will make decisions for you or on your behalf. You should learn to make decisions for yourself, learn to strive for and create living space and resources on your own, and learn to protect your own living space and resources by yourself, rather than kowtowing and paying tribute to others or political parties, and then begging them to bestow, grant, or allocate a little bit of living space and resources to you, and safeguard your security.
Think about it: why can’t you bravely strive for and defend your own living space and resources by yourself?
Few people realize that, in fact, within the cultural genes of us Chinese people, subtle and imperceptible elements lie hidden. Influenced by these elements, we naturally, habitually, and involuntarily seek others to make decisions for us. It is as if this has been branded and engraved deep within the souls of the Chinese people.
Ever since China ended its feudal system and entered the autocratic empire of Emperor Qin Shi Huang, these elements have gradually penetrated deep into the bodies and minds of the Chinese people. Under the influence of these elements over two thousand years, we have thought of everything and created a splendid human civilization, yet the only things we have never thought of are bravely making decisions for ourselves and bravely protecting ourselves by ourselves.
And these elements are, in reality, servile consciousness.
To the extent that, as whole adults with sound limbs and functional minds, we entrust such major life matters as protecting ourselves, deciding for ourselves, establishing ourselves, and securing our well-being and happiness to the governance of emperors, generals, ministers, a certain party, a certain government, or certain great men.
In truth, what the majority of Chinese people and ordinary populace have ever wanted is never democracy, but a wise master. They only seek to find a great figure, and then support him, love him, worship him, and hand over our entire country, our entire nation, and everything we have to him to decide, praying only that this great figure can lead them toward a wealthy state, a strong people, and a prosperous nation.
What they seek is to chance upon a good monarch, a good government, and a good team of leading officials; they are willing to actively obey the arrangements of great men, leaders, officials, and the government, hoping only that these great men, government, and leaders can bring them everything they need for their lives.
And the consequence of doing so is that while a great figure and its government could bestow land upon you in 1949, they could also take it back in 1953 before your whole family even had a chance to warm it up; they could handpick you to become a Vice Premier of the country, and they could also make you one of the tens of millions of souls penned in to starve to death; they could let you become an official, a secretary, or a team leader, allow you to embezzle state and collective property, and let you subject other ordinary populace to unspoken rules; and they could also have your home raided and lead you to be criticized and denounced, leave you penniless with your life in jeopardy, and cause the life-and-death ups and downs as well as the rise, fall, honor, and disgrace of you and your entire family to be controlled in the hands of a great figure and its government. They make all 1.4 billion Chinese people in New China into chives and consumables that they can harvest and suppress at will, leaving the entire lives of 1.4 billion Chinese people in their hands.
Under the influence of servility, most Chinese people merely think that human beings are born to be managed by the government and by the state. We have never thought that we could choose to forge the government into a tool that serves and safeguards us Chinese people. We have also never thought that the state does not belong to the government, nor to any leader or any party; the state is the state of us Chinese people, and how the state should be governed should be decided by the vote of all of us Chinese people, rather than being decided by any government, any party, or any leader. Remember this: human beings are not born to be managed by state governments; rather, human beings have the right to govern their own state, and the right to supervise and manage our government. Remember this: human beings do not exist for the state; on the contrary, the state exists for human beings.
As for those so-called great men or great figures, on what grounds should we listen to them? On what grounds should our lives be handed over to them to manipulate? Handed over to them to decide and determine? We can make decisions for ourselves. If they are willing, they can come to run for head of state, provincial governor, or mayor, and come to work for us citizens and work for the state. Moreover, whether they can come to power should only be decided by the vote of citizens. In this way, when you meet these so-called great men and great figures in the future, you will no longer need to tremble with fear that they will decide your life, death, glory, and wealth; instead, it is they who will need to carefully curry favor with you. Because from then on, it is not they who hold your destiny, but rather their destiny that is in your hands. Remember this: this alone is the true feeling of being the master of the state, rather than the kind where meeting even a small township mayor makes you nervous and distressed to the extreme.
What do you think is the ultimate form of servility in Chinese people today?
In my view, it is nothing less than the fact that when you resist the CCP, many Chinese people still feel you are not worthy. Here, some pro-democracy figures might be baffled: I’m just resisting the CCP, merely opposing the CCP’s exploitation and oppression of me—how am I not worthy?
In fact, in the subconscious of many ordinary populace, the CCP is their master, and your attempt to overthrow the CCP is an attempt to overthrow their master. Furthermore, they will not think that your purpose in overthrowing the CCP is to rescue them, so that they can live like human beings and continue to live in a way characterized by freedom, democracy, constitutionalism, and republicanism. They will only subconsciously feel: “This group of people wants to overthrow the CCP because they want to become my new master.” Therefore, according to their logic, they indeed can judge whether you are worthy of “rebellion.”
In addition, some of our friends who resist the CCP still fail to realize a problem: just as a slave owner needs slaves, slaves likewise need a master. To a slave, a world without a master is as if the sky were falling, filling them with boundless terror and leaving them completely at a loss, because slaves lack the courage to face this world independently. Therefore, in many cases, to protect their master, lackeys are often far more fierce and ruthless toward you than their master is.
However, remember this: there is no savior in this world; you can only save yourself. Trust me, no one besides yourself will care more about your own rights and interests than you do.
Neither human rights nor civil rights drop from the sky, let alone are they bestowed by great men or governments; rather, they are won through struggle. As long as you do not know how to or do not dare to strive for your own rights, sooner or later you will be consumed and picked clean by those in power.
From the Qin and Han dynasties to the present, we have continuously paid the price for the ignorance and cowardice of our previous generations. The suffering of every single one of them matched their level of cognition and cowardice. If we continue in this manner, our descendants will likewise continue to pay the price for our ignorance and cowardice.
Those ordinary populace who died wrongfully, unjustly, from starvation, or from exhaustion since the Qin and Han dynasties are our warnings; those people who have been persecuted to death, struggled to death, played to death, starved to death, or oppressed to death by the CCP from 1949 to the present are the ultimate destination of you and me, or of our descendants.
Remember well: you must learn to bravely make decisions for yourself, rather than finding a master to make decisions for you.
3,Learn equality.
The hardest thing for Chinese people to learn is equality, because what most of us Chinese people have pursued since childhood is precisely inequality.
Yes, Chinese people are the nation that least approves of equality. What have Chinese people always pursued and approved of? It is becoming a person above other persons, being superior to others. Therefore, Chinese people especially like to compare themselves with others; in whatever they do, they especially want to overpower others everywhere, or else they feel uncomfortable deep inside.
From a young age, Chinese people are exhorted, “Only by enduring the bitterest of hardships can one become a person above other persons.” What we have pursued since childhood is not equality; instead, we spare no effort in hanging our hair from the rafters and pricking our thighs with an awl, spare no effort in enduring hardship and suffering, and even want to become a person above other persons at all costs. Then we grasp power and trample other Chinese people underfoot—as if only in this way do you have value, do you have a promising future, can you hold your head high, and can you bring glory to your ancestors.
Chinese people have always emphasized social hierarchy, dividing people into three tiers and nine ranks. Starting from Confucianism, hierarchy was arranged by status, distinguishing between noble persons and petty persons. From Emperor Wu of Han onward, the higher the official post, the greater the power, the higher the rank, and the more noble one was, and the more living space and resources one could obtain. The lower the rank, the more base one was, while those who could not even fit into a rank were historically only trampled, mocked, spurned, and poked in the back by others. Moreover, even if your livelihood was difficult, you still had to grain-tribute, pay tribute, pay taxes, and send red envelopes to noble persons, grand officials, and leading cadres of higher rank. Therefore, even if you did not want to trample on others, you had to climb upward with all your might, because only by doing so could you obtain sufficient living space and resources and avoid being trampled on, or be trampled on less.
From the Qin and Han dynasties to the present, the optimal solution for the survival of most Chinese people has still been becoming an official. One had to hold power, climb upward, and become a person above other persons. For this, they could only fawn upon those in power in every imaginable way; could only bow and scrape to serve the powerful and noble; could only exhaust every effort to pull others down and push them out; and could only plot with all their wits how to trample on others to advance themselves. How to become a high-ranking official or a leader, how to hold heavy power—ideally to be ennobled as a marquis or appointed as prime minister, reaching the pinnacle of a minister’s career; ideally to be “below one person, above ten thousand people”; and some even shouted, “Are kings, dukes, generals, and ministers born to their rank?” Yet they risked their lives and put their heads on the line not for equality, but to become the supreme sovereign of nine and five, to hold imperial power, to enjoy wealth and glory, and to trample all the populace underfoot.
And it is precisely because only by becoming a person above other persons can one obtain power and acquire sufficient living space and resources. Thus, this mindset of pursuing inequality, striving to overpower others, and seeking superiority over others from a young age has become almost instinctual, deeply rooted in the bones of Chinese people. It has led Chinese people to never believe in equality for all, or even to be unable to imagine that all people can be equal. Furthermore, it has led those imperial relatives, noble families, imperial scholars, and leading cadres to truly believe that they are inherently more noble than others, and to genuinely feel that they ought to obtain more public power and social wealth than others. It is precisely this pursuit of inequality, this obsession with becoming a person above other persons, and this pathological worship of power that has provided the soil and nutrients for the existence of the CCP as a privileged class. Because in reality, most Chinese people today do not hate privilege; on the contrary, they worship privilege and long to obtain privilege. What they hate is merely that the person possessing privilege is not themselves.
Therefore, we must strive to overcome this behavioral trait accumulated over these two thousand years and learn to treat every fellow Chinese person in an equal manner.
At first, Westerners also found it difficult to accept equality for all, because how could royals and nobles willingly accept equality with common people? Yet ultimately, relying on the faith that “all men are equal before God,” as well as the voting rights in the hands of commoners and the need for commoners to participate in battle during wartime, they gradually established natural human rights and formed the concept that human beings are born equal.
You might say that this is too difficult for Chinese people, because very few Chinese people believe in God. But I am sorry, I do not know what kind of reason could possibly cultivate the prejudice that causes one person to feel he is genuinely superior to another person.
Nor do I know what kind of mindset causes one person to self-consciously feel that another person is not worthy of being equal to them, let alone worthy of being treated equally.
Even less do I know why some people possess an inferiority complex and are conditioned to feel that certain other people are simply superior and more noble than themselves.
However, if you think about it, everyone is human, everyone is merely an animal—apes dressed in clothes and hats. So tell me: among these six billion clothed apes on Earth, which single one has had its level of existence transcend the realm of animals, so as to no longer be an animal? Or is there any person who is no longer a human being, whose level of existence has reached the realm of a superman? Or who feels that they are no longer a mortal, but have already become a Buddha, demon, immortal, or god?
It seems there is not a single one.
So since all human beings are the exact same mammals and share the exact same level of existence, can you tell me the reason why you feel proud and superior to other clothed apes?
Is it because your parents are leading high cadres? Or is it because you hold power? The monkey king in a zoo’s monkey troop is also a leader, holds power, and enjoys priority mating rights; so tell me, has the level of existence of this monkey king exceeded the realm of monkeys? If not, tell me: where are these ape and monkey leaders who possess power superior to ordinary apes and monkeys?
Are the second-generation offspring of ape kings and monkey kings no longer apes and monkeys? Where are they superior to ordinary little apes and little monkeys?
Can an ape transform into a super-ape simply because it has too much money?
Can powerful and influential people eat Flat Peaches, Elixirs of Immortality, or Ginseng Fruits? Or can they only consume proteins, carbohydrates, fats, and alcohol just like ordinary people?
Does a chimpanzee living in a imperial lodge or villa cease to be a chimpanzee?
Does a chimpanzee possessing airplanes and yachts transform into a Kunpeng?
Do you feel that a female chimpanzee possessing an Hermès Birkin bag is superior to a female chimpanzee without an Hermès Birkin bag?
Is an Hermès Birkin bag a spatial artifact from a cultivation novel? Can it store items far exceeding its own volume?
Can a person who attended Ivy League universities, worked in the United Nations, vacationed in Hawaii, ate French cuisine, and tasted Kobe beef transform into Ultraman Tiga? Or a Super Saiyan?
The essence of a human being is an animal, and the primary nature of a human being is animality. Since everyone is an animal, everyone eats, sleeps, and farts in the exact same way, everyone goes through birth, aging, sickness, and death in the exact same way, and no one has transcended the realm of animals, on what grounds do you feel that you are superior to another animal? And why can you not lay down your prejudices and treat others equally?
Or do you feel it is because your genes are superior? Because your IQ is 160, because you run the 100-meter dash in 9.5 seconds, because you have a gift for business, because your company is in the Fortune Global 500, or because you have a talent for mathematics, literature, art, and so on?
In truth, however, human beings are genuinely born equal. In this world, no person’s genes are better, more excellent, or more noble than another person’s genes.
Although each of us possesses different genes and characteristics, none of these genes and characteristics are inherently superior or inferior. There is only the fact that these genes manifest and adapt differently in different environments; there is only the fact that some people’s genes are fortunate enough to encounter an environment that can give play to their talents and activate their genetic capabilities, while others do not—that is all.
Of course, human beings are all mere mortals. A low-level person like me inevitably envies those who enjoy wealth, glory, fine clothing, exquisite food, success, fame, and beautiful spouses. Yet you and I need not engage in self-denial at all, let alone rush to feel inferior. Because the reason some people in this world succeed is merely that, in this world, there will always have to be some people who succeed.
Yes, in this society, whether it be power, wealth, status, prestige, or family background, none of these are distributed based on your individual personal efforts, capabilities, or level of intelligence.
Many times, when a person succeeds, it is not because they are particularly extraordinary, but simply because their luck was better than others’.
In fact, no matter how great an achievement someone attains, in that same field and aspect you can certainly find a loser whose capabilities were better, who was more adept, and who was more professional. Yet there is no way around it; many times, life is just so full of luck, probability, and uncertainty.
The fundamental reason behind all of this is that the power of an individual human being is exceedingly tiny—so tiny that even your success and failure are not determined by yourself. Instead, one must look to the trends of the times, rely on luck, and contend with probability. Yet this also reflects from another angle that human beings are actually equal. Furthermore, this equality reaches such an extent that even if gaps in intelligence and capability exist among people, these gaps are limited and cannot offset the impact that the trends of the times, luck, and probability exert on a person’s success or failure.
Moreover, in reality, even our individual survival is not determined by human beings themselves; every person who is still alive today has, in fact, been sheltered by good fortune.
Therefore, so-called successful individuals need not feel self-satisfied, let alone refuse to treat others as equals because of it. Likewise, losers like you and me need not harbor self-deprecation, and even more so must treat others with a heart of equality.
As a man, I feel one must possess the conviction that “I am no better than anyone else, but I am also inferior to no one.” Let us learn to respect others without self-disparagement, and truly learn equality for all, remaining neither servile nor arrogant.
4,Most Chinese people do not know that the essence of democracy is a decision-making procedure
Citizens revere republicanism, abide by rules, and advocate democratic decision-making procedures; those who destroy republicanism and violate democratic decision-making procedures will pay the corresponding price.
Decision-making among citizens relies not on physical force, nor on fighting and killing, but rather on all citizens—under the premise of republicanism—discussing, deliberating, and voting together in an equal, free, and independent manner.
The essence of democracy is a decision-making procedure. Because citizens are equal among themselves, no one possesses the power to command other citizens on what to do, nor does anyone possess the power to lead other citizens or arbitrarily decide what to do on their behalf. Therefore, when citizens handle state, social public affairs, and other group affairs, if disagreements arise among citizens or a consensus cannot be reached, the only option is to resolve it through a one-person, one-vote method of voting.
Furthermore, all citizens will abide by the resolutions produced through this democratic decision-making mechanism. This is not only a civic obligation and adherence to agreed promises, but also an acknowledgment of the democratic decision-making procedure itself, and even more so the key to citizens being able to form a group and prevent it from falling apart.
Because if everyone fails to abide by the results of one-person, one-vote, or selectively chooses to abide only by what is advantageous to themselves, then this group of citizens faces the risk of dissolution and collapse. In this way, citizens will be unable to unite, let alone form power.
Under a democratic mechanism, Chinese people can to the maximum extent achieve competition without struggle. Competition is benign and will produce superior winners. In China, however, there is only struggle; those who prevail in struggle are often not the superior ones, but rather the most shameless, those with the lowest bottom line, and those most able to win at any cost.
As for those destroyers of democracy and republicanism—those who are the most shameless, have the lowest bottom line, and are capable of taking the lives and health of Chinese people as a price to pay—they will be eliminated by the punishment mechanism of democracy.
We must stop infighting and learn to decide the destiny of our country, nation, and individuals through republicanism and democratic decision-making procedures, as well as learn equality for all. We must learn to adopt democratic procedures when handling social public affairs, public decision-making, and internal disagreements among citizens, and ensure that those who destroy democracy and republicanism face their deserved punishment. Otherwise, even if the CCP is overthrown, Chinese people will still fall into the dead loop of Chinese history since the Qin and Han dynasties.
Remember well: we must learn to abide by democratic decision-making procedures and identify those who genuinely oppose the CCP, dare to oppose the CCP, and possess the capability to oppose the CCP.
5,Learn to form a group.
One must know: citizens are a group. For citizens, any action that infringes upon civil rights or social justice is intolerable. Citizens will spontaneously unite to combat actions that infringe upon civil rights and social justice. This is because citizens deeply understand that an infringement upon the rights of other citizens is, in reality, an infringement upon themselves. If they can infringe upon the civil rights and interests of others today, it means they can also infringe upon yours tomorrow. And if you do not step forward today to maintain the rights of other citizens, then when those citizens are dealt with and it becomes their turn to handle you, there will no longer be anyone left to step forward and fight alongside you. In this way, citizens will be gradually decomposed, eroded, and ultimately swallowed up and eliminated by those pests that erode civil rights.
Therefore, all pests attempting to take away citizens’ civil rights, attempting to deprive citizens of their civil rights, or attempting to infringe upon citizens’ civil rights and interests are the public enemies of citizens. Citizens will spontaneously unite to combat them together, even if they happen to be the government, the military, the party, or overseas forces.
Everyone, what do you think is the reason the CCP can do whatever it pleases and act lawlessly in China at present?
Is it because the leaders of the CCP possess some great power? Or, like those high-and-mighty great gods and high immortals in Nezha 2, do CCP members possess some supernatural abilities and spells?
None at all. Whether they are leaders or low-level minions of the CCP, they are all flesh and blood like us and like the populace of Chentang Pass. They eat, drink, defecate, and urinate just like us, and they die from a bullet shot or bleed from a knife cut just like us. So on what grounds do they rule over us? On what grounds do they press our population of over one billion to the ground to harvest us?
In fact, the answer lies in a single line from the pre-Qin thinkers: “In strength, man is no match for the ox; in running, man is no match for the horse; yet the ox and the horse are used by man—why is that?” The answer: “Because human beings can form groups, whereas they cannot.”
In truth, whether it be oxen, horses, jackals, wolves, tigers, leopards, pigs, bears, or elephants, even if humans are somewhat smarter, in an era where humans could hold only cold weapons, it was difficult for a human to defeat these wild beasts in a one-on-one situation. The reason humans were able to defeat these wild animals—and either tame them, take their hides and fur to keep out the cold, harvest their bones and claws for medicine, or take their blood and flesh to satisfy hunger—was simply that humans can form groups, whereas these wild beasts cannot.
The reason the current CCP can harvest and enslave us—over one billion Chinese people—is simply because the CCP can form a group, whereas we, the other one billion and more Chinese people, cannot form a group.
Yes, the power of an individual human being is exceedingly limited, fragile, and tiny. Human power comes from the group—from the ability to form a group.
Unfortunately, most Chinese people today fail to realize this. They fail to realize their own power; they fail to realize the grand power of the group; and even less do they realize that they themselves are the source of the state’s power. They merely think of themselves as ordinary, mundane, and weak individuals, completely unaware that as long as we assemble the power of these seemingly ordinary, mundane, and weak individuals, we can converge into a new political torrent that can contend with the CCP and will certainly defeat the CCP, because the CCP has only 80 million registered personnel, whereas we ordinary people number over one billion.
In addition to failing to realize our own power and the power of forming a group, the biggest problem for us—over one billion Chinese people—is that we have not yet learned to unite. Currently, we remain a heap of loose sand, whereas the CCP is a tight organization assembling 70 to 80 million registered personnel. Therefore, we—these individual, separate social units, these grains of sand—currently do not even possess the qualification to contend with the CCP. Forget the fact that you shatter the moment the CCP touches you; even if a certain county public security bureau under the CCP sneezes, you and I melt away.
I am not exaggerating here. Just look at the recent news: offshore fishing by an out-of-town police station can leave you penniless and cause a citizen worth hundreds of millions to perish during detention.
In fact, writing up to this point, the method and path to contend with and defeat the CCP are already plain for all to see. Contending with and defeating the CCP is both simple and straightforward: as long as we—the over one billion people duped, harvested, and squeezed by the CCP—learn to form a group and unite to fight the CCP with one mind, the CCP will melt away in an instant. And this is precisely why the CCP does not permit Chinese people to form political parties or associations, because within this lies the power to destroy the CCP.
Sometimes you might find it incomprehensible and feel that the CCP and its government are making a mountain out of a molehill, fearing even three or five people wearing the same clothes running in a public space. This is actually because they know the power of the group.
Yet where it is difficult lies in how we—these over one billion Chinese people—can learn to unite as one to fight the CCP.
Fortunately, this path lies right in front of you and me. We Chinese people do not need to invent or create this method; we only need to learn from the ready-made experience of those before us—interacting in the manner of citizens, forming citizens’ groups, and fighting the CCP with one mind.
If we—this group of over one billion Chinese people fooled and harvested by the CCP—cannot even learn what those before us have already walked out, laid down, and placed in front of us to learn, then given the intelligence and pathetic disposition of our group, we truly deserve to be ruled by the CCP, and deserve to be harvested, squeezed, and persecuted by the CCP generation after generation.
Perhaps this is a form of natural selection: those with high intelligence, the ability to form groups, and the capacity to collaborate eliminate or enslave those with low IQ, an inability to form groups, and an inability to collaborate.
So, will you choose to be eliminated and enslaved by the CCP, or will you choose to learn to form a group in the manner of modern citizens—interacting, uniting, and collaborating to fight and overthrow the CCP?
I personally choose the latter. Unfortunately, there is no spiritual energy in this world, nor are we playing a game of immortal cultivation, and even less does it rely on individual extraordinary power. An individual never possesses the capability to contend with this world alone. The real world relies on the collaboration of groups and ethnic groups. As a single person, no matter how right you are, no matter how hard you try, and no matter how you choose, you are merely a drop in the ocean, and in the end, a single palm cannot clap. What is most regrettable, however, is that even leaving aside those domestically, looking solely at the Chinese people who have already drifted overseas because of the CCP, most of them still cannot form a group.
Everyone, please form political parties, please form associations, and please learn to unite as one to fight the CCP.
6,Chinese people need a constitution; anti-communism needs a constitution; every civil society and citizen state needs a “Constitution.”
Currently, why can’t we Chinese people form a group? Why are we a heap of loose sand? Why do we not unite with or trust one another? In fact, the biggest reason is that we—over one billion Chinese people—lack a consensus. Regarding the present and future of our country, nation, society, and individuals, we either have varying demands, unclear demands, or have no idea whatsoever what to do. Or we pretend to be noble and disdain politics; or we indulge in mountains and rivers, immersing ourselves in sensuality and debauchery; or we muddle through life, feeding ourselves with pacifying entertainment; or we mount a silent resistance through the attitude of lying flat—not working, not getting married, and not having children. Yet most Chinese people fail to realize that they can have political demands at all. They are accustomed to following the Party and listening to the Party’s words, and accustomed to obeying the arrangements and commands of leaders. They fail completely to realize that they have the right to participate in making the rules of the state, that they have the right to cast their vote regarding the enactment, amendment, and abolition of the constitution, and that they have the right and capability to determine the future of our country, nation, and individuals.
I often see net-citizens posting in groups and online with messages to the effect of worrying about what will happen to China if the CCP is gone and the like. They fear change and are terrified that life will be even worse without the CCP. In reality, however, the “Constitution” is meant precisely to have you dare to stand up yourself and allow you—in your capacity as a master—to participate in, deliberate on, vote on, and formulate a charter concerning what the present and future of our country, nation, and individuals should be.
On the surface, the “Constitution” is a charter formed through the joint participation, deliberation, voting, and agreement among citizens; it is a contract that all citizens must jointly obey, maintain, and defend.
Substantively, however, the essence of the “Constitution” is the rules of the state, and whoever holds the power to frame, amend, and abolish the constitution holds the state. The essence of civic constitutionalism is that citizens govern their own country in accordance with the “Constitution” agreed upon by all citizens. That is, it requires citizens to be able to learn to govern their own country by themselves, requires citizens to be able to bravely assume the risks and responsibilities brought about by their own behavior, and requires citizens to no longer remain kneeling, but rather to have the courage to stand up and become the masters of their own country themselves, so as to enjoy the rights of a master of the state and assume the responsibilities and obligations of a master of the state.
Citizens cannot do without the “Constitution.” Citizens without a constitution are actually in a state where civic rights and obligations remain to be defined, and how to govern the country remains to be determined. Having a constitution actually clarifies how citizens should act; therefore, the “Constitution” is also referred to as a “Civic Manual of Conduct.” Even more importantly, however, the “Constitution” is the consensus of all citizens, the key to uniting the hearts of the citizens, and the core of civic cohesion. This is because citizens are linked together with one another through the “Constitution”; without a “Constitution,” citizens are a heap of loose sand. Furthermore, the “Constitution” also contains the vision of all citizens for their own country and nation, guiding the future and direction pursued by citizens for the country, the nation, and individual citizens.
The urgent priority for Chinese citizens is to pool their wisdom and efforts to initiate as quickly as possible the actions of national constitutional drafting, amending, and framing, and then strive to reach a consensus to jointly formulate a “Constitution” that can truly maintain and guarantee the human rights and civil rights of Chinese citizens.
Some friends might feel that as far as anti-communism is concerned, amending the constitution is useless, and that things like laws, ideologies, and viewpoints are all soft, empty talk and verbal satisfaction, whereas only guns, artillery, and armed forces possess real power. In reality, however, having this viewpoint is because one’s thinking remains stuck in the Twenty-Four Histories.
What is the CCP afraid of nowadays?
It is definitely not some Zhang Xianzhong or Li Zicheng; this is the modern era, not ancient times. In modern times, even if there were a Zhang Xianzhong or a Li Zicheng with tens of thousands of troops swearing oaths, and even if in addition to swords, spears, armor, and warhorses they were equipped with AK-47s, small trucks, and rocket launchers, the CCP is not afraid of such small-scale armed uprisings. No matter how many of you pop up, the CCP can easily eliminate just as many. The CCP needs only to label Zhang Xianzhong and Li Zicheng as terrorists, pin on them the crimes of splitting the country and vainly attempting to subvert the state, send two units over, and exterminate them in half an hour. Afterward, they synthesize and publish some evidence of Zhang Xianzhong and Li Zicheng killing, committing arson, robbing women and property, and receiving funding from foreign forces. The ordinary populace across the country will cheer and applaud enthusiastically, and then the CCP will claim credit, hold gala celebrations, and the entire incident concludes.
Then what is the CCP most afraid of?
It is the hearts of the people.
It is having its lies exposed.
It is the fear that the Chinese populace will form a consensus.
Because the CCP’s regime was not won through fighting, but tricked into existence. Back then, time and again they shouted that when the Communist Party comes, the people will stand up and become masters; they shouted that they would serve the people, shouted that they would build socialism, eliminate exploitation, eliminate polarization, achieve an extreme abundance of material resources, and make everyone happy. Therefore, when the majority of Chinese people truly see the true face and lies of the CCP, the fundamental base of the CCP will collapse without a blow.
As for those who are already awakened, yet do not know how to resist, or do not dare to resist, or feel that resistance is useless, or believe that even if resistance succeeds it would merely be changing emperors, changing which party rules, and changing the medicine without changing the broth—through the process of constitution-framing and constitution-enacting, we tell them where the future of China, the Chinese nation, and individual citizens lies; we let them know that we can win, and let them see that we Chinese people can also create a better and more practical life, and can truly achieve political modernization in China.
What is more important is that this process of constitution-framing and constitution-enacting is a process of enabling the populace to understand constitutionalism, popularizing democracy and republicanism, and exposing the Chinese populace’s thinking to modern political common sense; and what is most important is that this process of constitution-framing and constitution-enacting is a process of gathering public opinion and forming consensus! To be sure, if it were merely myself shouting alone, or 10 or 100 people shouting that the Chinese people must frame and enact a constitution, then of course, this constitution would be soft and without any power. But if 10,000, 100,000, or 1,000,000 people jointly amend a constitution and jointly approve of a constitution, then the CCP will face a severe headache and dilemma. Moreover, according to my estimation, following the epidemic lockdowns coupled with the CCP’s perverse actions in politics, the economy, and people’s livelihoods in recent years, at least 5% of us Chinese people have awakened. How many is 5%? It is 70 million—exceeding the total population of the United Kingdom. If all 70 million of us approve of a constitution, then this is absolutely a formidable force that can completely shake the CCP. Furthermore, we are situated in all walks of life across China, and some even hold positions within the CCP; we are merely waiting for the wind to rise and the clouds to gather. If all 70 million of us further mobilize our parents, children, and the relatives, friends, and colleagues around us, when the population approving of constitution-framing, constitution-enacting, and this constitution exceeds 300 million—not even requiring more than half of China’s population, as long as 350 million of us citizens take to the streets together (the U.S. population being 340 million) to demand that the CCP step down, demand that the CCP return power, and demand that China implement democracy, constitutionalism, and republicanism—then the CCP’s regime will collapse overnight.
You also need not worry that we lack arms or a military. Because as long as public support reaches this point, when the time comes, the overwhelming majority of the soldiers—the sons of the people—will only point their gun barrels at the heads of the CCP top leadership. For they are not machines; the soldiers, as sons of the people, were not born to be sons of the Party, nor are they sons of CCP leaders—they are the sons of the people and the ordinary populace.
Everyone, mobilize fellow countrymen as much as possible to participate in constitution-enacting and constitution-framing, strive as much as possible to win the hearts of the people, gather public opinion, and form consensus. This is the power that can truly destroy the foundation of the CCP, rather than continuing to pin hopes on some Zhang Xianzhong or Li Zicheng.
Of course, we must also admit that constitution-framing and constitution-enacting is a very long-term process that is very difficult to reach a consensus on, requiring the consumption of countless human, material, financial, and mental resources. But God bless China! Everyone, a ready-made constitution actually lies right before our Chinese nation; we need only directly copy over Taiwan’s Constitution of the Republic of China along with its other constitutional documents, without having to cross the river by feeling the stones.
Remember well: politics requires wisdom, and the optimal solution placed before us Chinese people is actually to implement Taiwan’s democratic system on mainland China.
At the very end of the entire article, I would like to ask everyone a question: I wonder if you happen to know why back then 200,000 Qing troops of the Qing court were able to destroy the Great Ming with its population of 100 million?
Answer: Because the Great Ming could not form a group.
The reason why the Ming dynasty was destroyed by the Qing court was primarily due to severe infighting and internal attrition. Zhu Yuanzhang and his successive successors, in order to allow the Zhu family to securely rule the realm generation after generation, did the following at court: slaughtered meritorious officials, abolished prime-ministerial power, physically flogged scholar-officials with heavy sticks, and, in order to prevent military generals from rebelling, intentionally emphasized the civil while slighting the military, colluded with the civil official group to suppress and despise military generals, placed restrictions and obstacles on military generals at every turn, intentionally weakened the combat power of the military, and even for selfish personal gain did not hesitate to destroy their own military, massacre generals, and self-castrate the state’s military strength; subsequently, in order to fight for power and profit against civil officials and military generals, they heavily relied on eunuchs, making the entire imperial court foul, smoky, and shattered into pieces.
Among the populace: Zhu Yuanzhang further enacted the Zhiding Law (Law of Identifying Able-Bodied Males) and the travel permit (luyin) system, monitoring and nailing the ordinary populace securely under imperial power from birth to death, while advocating mutual surveillance among villagers and neighbors, encouraging mutual exposure, with everyone scrutinizing one another. They turned neighbors within ten li into despicable, dark, bottom-layer mutually harmful individuals, where everyone falsely accused one another, plotted against one another, secretly harmed one another, and trapped and killed one another, causing the popular morale to degenerate.
In the end, the entire Ming dynasty, from the imperial court down to the ordinary populace, saw its society completely pulverized. Everyone was hostile toward one another and could not unite in one place. Indeed, just as the Zhu family wished, it was indeed very difficult for a combined force to form within the Great Ming to contend with imperial power. Yet, after thousands of calculations, in the end the Qing court entered the Central Plains with effortless ease.
Even after reaching the Southern Ming, when the Ming dynasty had clearly already fallen once, when Qing troops were clearly bearing down in force on the border, and when the Han people were clearly at a critical juncture of life and death, the various emperors, civil officials, and military generals of the Southern Ming puppet courts were still constantly squabbling for power and profit. Emperors and civil and military officials plotted against each other; civil officials looked down on military generals and suppressed them; military generals refused to obey the commands of civil officials; factional strife among civil officials grew ever more intense; military generals slaughtered one another; and the rebel armies that surrendered to the Southern Ming engaged in endless conflict with original civil officials and military generals. While Qing troops burned, killed, pillaged, and looted landlords, local gentry, wealthy merchants, and the ordinary populace, Ming troops and peasant rebel armies also burned, killed, pillaged, and looted landlords, local gentry, wealthy merchants, and the ordinary populace; and landlords, local gentry, wealthy merchants, and the ordinary populace also robbed, killed, and looted among themselves. The entire Southern Ming, from top to bottom, was alienated and divided. From beginning to end, throughout the eighteen years of the Southern Ming, it was unable to effectively mobilize military forces to resist the Qing troops. The ultimate consequence was that the Great Ming, with a population of 100 million, was no match for the 200,000 Qing troops entering the Pass, and the entire Ming dynasty embraced death together amidst everyone’s infighting and internal attrition. The Great Ming was completely destroyed by foreign tribes, and the Han people were henceforth conquered by the Manchus, able only to kneel on the ground, call themselves “slaves,” and pledge loyalty to the Manchus.
Many fans of the Ming dynasty often lament bitterly, saying: “It was the Manchu Qing that ruined China! It was the Manchu Qing’s policy of national isolation that disconnected China from the world and caused our China to fall behind the world!” But everyone, “A person must first insult himself before others insult him; a family must first destroy itself before others destroy it; a state must first attack itself before others attack it.” Had something not gone wrong with the Great Ming, how could this Great Ming with a population of 100 million have been breached and fallen to the 200,000 iron cavalry of the Manchu Qing?
When our generation looks at this period of history, we mostly feel that these emperors, Confucian officials, military generals, rebel armies, landlords, local gentry, wealthy merchants, and ordinary populace were foolish, pedantic, absurd, short-sighted, and laughable. But everyone, are we today not precisely the same? In what way are we any better than them?
Don’t you see that the high level of the CCP and its core backbone members number at most around 5 to 8 million people? Yet this Communist Party of no more than ten million plays our population of over one billion Chinese people like toys in the palm of its hand using a set of so-called Communism, live-streaming us from our rightful status as masters of the state into the CCP’s beasts of burden, chives, and spare organs.
What is the situation with today’s democracy movement and anti-communist figures?
A week ago, I saw a group chat among anti-communist figures. Two group members were involved: one strongly supported President Sun Yat-sen, while the other strongly supported Mr. Song Jiaoren. The two abused each other, with each bringing up the faults of Sun and Song to attack the other side. Midway, a group member who supported President Yuan Shikai charged in out of nowhere, claiming that in fact, if China had pursued a constitutional monarchy after Yuan declared himself emperor, China could also have enriched the state and strengthened the military like Britain and Japan, and that only President Yuan had the capability to resist and stop Japanese militarism’s aggression against China. Ultimately, after a bout of bickering among the three, two group members quit the group.
In recent years, quite a few democracy movement and anti-communist figures often get red-faced and flushed over President Trump. Those supporting Trump and those hating Trump despise each other, arguing and fighting endlessly, causing quite a few netizens—and even acquaintances—who previously got along well to turn sour over this.
In reality, this is a form of childishness—political childishness.
What is our purpose?
It is anti-communism; it is overthrowing the Chinese Communist Party; it is achieving political modernization in China; it is striving for the human rights and civil rights of Chinese citizens.
As for whether some among us support President Sun, support Mr. Song, or support President Yuan, it truly does not matter—that is individual freedom. Politics is not playing house like children, nor are you and I kids in a kindergarten who, at the slightest displeasure, blurt out “I’m not playing with you anymore.” Whether someone among us supports President Trump or opposes President Trump also has little to do with anti-communism. We cannot suppress, unify, and crush thought as the CCP does. What we want to establish is not another autocratic political party. We should permit others to support people whom we do not like; as long as that person is not a toxic current like Mao Zedong, we must also learn to accept and accommodate viewpoints different from ours. So long as everyone unanimously agrees on anti-communism, we can cooperate and unite. In this way, democracy will not fall apart, our group of anti-communist figures will not fall apart, and we Chinese people who are oppressed by the CCP can learn to form a group.
I was born in a mountain town along the southwestern border where the annual average temperature is only around ten degrees Celsius. It is probably China’s most remote, poorest, most backward, and least populated town. Most of the ancestors in our town were convicted criminals of the Ming dynasty who were banished and conscripted by Ming emperors to defend the border in Yunnan. My ancestors were also from Yingtian Prefecture in Nanjing, which is why my spoken accent differs from most Yunnan accents—and why many netizens question whether I am from Yunnan. Furthermore, because it was located at the junction of three prefectures, serving as a transportation thoroughfare, and because prior to 1995 there were abundant tin, copper, and iron mines as well as precious timber resources locally, many people were engaged in mining, logging, trading, and transport in the surrounding areas at that time, making the small town’s economy exceptionally active and extraordinarily chaotic. At that time, mining and logging required no formalities or mining permits; if you were brave enough to occupy it, it was yours, and neither the government nor the public security bureau could do anything about it. Stolen mining, mineral looting, and illegal logging were rampant everywhere. Back then, the minerals and timber around other counties and townships surrounding our small town were all controlled by bosses from outside, but our small town alone was the exception, because back then our small town was famous for being united. Although the local reputation was poor—fierce and combative—whenever anyone from the small town was bullied or beaten by outsiders, regardless of whether there were interests involved, other people in the town would spontaneously gather and charge forward to help. Moreover, even families that usually held grudges in the town, neighbors who had just gotten into a fight while drinking the night before, or villagers who had exchanged blows over water or land along the field edges—when any of them was bullied by outsiders, the other would step forward to help. For if outsiders moved to grab mines, grab timber, or beat someone up and you did not step forward to help, then whenever trouble struck your household in the future and you were beaten by outsiders, no one in town would step forward to help, and that unhelpful household would face immediate social death. Furthermore, this was true not only within the town: even when traveling away to sell minerals, transport timber, haul freight, or do business, whenever anyone heard a fight breaking out and heard our small town’s accent, regardless of whether they knew each other, they would charge up to help finish the fight first before saying anything else. The consequence of this was that the town’s minerals, timber, and other resources were earned exclusively by our own small town’s people. At that time, our small town’s annual income was greater than the county seat and all other townships in the county combined.
This is a somewhat barbaric yet illustrative small story about unity. Back then, many lives were lost every year, but this allowed me from a young age to experience how to form a group, how to unite a group together and keep it from falling apart, and also taught me how to be brave and resolute, unafraid of pain, and daring to risk my life to fight.
Those of us overseas who genuinely want to oppose the CCP must also learn to do the same. Even if everyone had ideological disagreements, conflicts of interest, unpleasantness, or mutual dislikes in the past or present, anti-communism is a public affair, while the personal is private. We must clearly distinguish between the public and the private, disregard past grievances, relinquish prejudices, join hands to advance together, and unite as one! Truly, none of us is more noble than anyone else.
Otherwise, we will never gather together, never form a combined force, never be able to form a group, and never be a match for the CCP—ending up merely as foolish, pedantic, absurd, short-sighted, and adding to the laughingstock, just like the Great Ming with its 100 million population falling to the 200,000 Qing troops.
Finally, let me repeat what I stated earlier in the text:
If we—this group of over one billion Chinese people fooled and harvested by the CCP—cannot even learn what Taiwan has already walked out, laid down, and placed in front of us to learn, then given the intelligence and pathetic disposition of our group, we truly deserve to be ruled by the CCP, and deserve to be harvested, squeezed, and persecuted by the CCP generation after generation.
Friends overseas and at home, are you all still capable of forming a group?
