In Commemoration of Xiaobo’s Ninth Anniversary

His shadow was once left upon the earth,

His immortal words and legend are engraved within the mountain of books.

On that year, that month, that day,

He merged into the vast sea.

Today,

Together,

By the edge of the Pacific Ocean,

We listen to the surging of his breath.

He is still speaking,

About freedom,

About love,

About the meaning of life.

When a flock of seagulls skims over the sea,

We see the joy of his flight.

When a solitary white crane stands alone upon the reef,

We feel his boundless loneliness.

Today,

We keep him company with candlelight,

We call out to him with poetry.

May spring blossom in his heavenly kingdom,

May our homeland have a bright future.

We commemorate the righteous man by the seashore,

We gaze from afar at our homeland on the other shore.

Xiaobo will return,

The light of freedom will illuminate Huaxia forever.
