Mourning Tibbot Hero Lobsang Tenzin
Author: Xu Jixin
Abstract:In memory of the Tibetan hero Lobsang Tenzin.
On July 2, a pillar of flames shot into the sky in front of the United Nations headquarters in New York. Tibetan compatriot Lobsang Tenzin turned his own body into a torch and his blood into a written testimony, setting himself on fire before what is supposed to be the world’s highest forum, in protest against the tyranny of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
We express our deepest grief and indignation, as well as our highest respect, for the heroic sacrifice of Lobsang Tenzin.
He was not seeking death; he was seeking life—life for Tibbot (a political-cultural term used by some Tibetans to refer to historical Tibet), life for the Uyghurs, life for the Mongolians, life for the Han Chinese, and life for all the peoples of China’s various ethnic groups who have been trampled under the iron heel of the CCP.
When speech is silenced, when truth is buried, and when the United Nations turns a deaf ear to the suffering of the Chinese people, a Tibetan could only resort to the most tragic means possible to make the world look once at Tibet’s wounds and hear one cry of anguish from China.
The United Nations must not remain devoid of compassion for the Chinese people who suffer under oppression!
You sit high in the Security Council, speaking of human rights and peace, yet you have unconditionally accepted the CCP regime—which employs methods as brutal as those seen during the Cultural Revolution—into the ranks of permanent members. Year after year, you allow CCP representatives to occupy seats on the Human Rights Council, cast vetoes in the face of genocide, ignore concentration camps, and remain deaf and blind to the cries of anguish coming from behind China’s Great Firewall.
Your silence is complicity.
Your neutrality is encouragement.
There must be no more appeasement and no more indulgence of the CCP tyranny’s reckless abuses!
Every act of appeasement causes more people like Lobsang Tenzin to fall into the flames.
Every transaction causes more mothers to lose their children, more monks to lose their monasteries, and more people to lose their mother tongue.
Here, The Opposition Party (Zai Ye Dang) wishes to raise its voice forcefully for this hero of Tibbot.
We refuse to forget.
We refuse to be represented by others.
The flames of Lobsang Tenzin are not the end of despair; they are a spark of resistance.
His name should be engraved in the hearts of every Chinese person who pursues freedom.
That the CCP can so freely persecute the peoples of China’s many ethnic groups is something for which the United Nations cannot escape responsibility.
It is you who have granted legitimacy to tyranny.
It is you who have used the right to development to conceal the right to slaughter.
It is you who have shut the cries of the victims outside the door while inviting the lies of the perpetrators onto the podium.
The hero is gone, but the flames have not been extinguished.
Lobsang Tenzin’s unyielding spirit will ignite within us a blazing fury against the CCP.
Lobsang Tenzin, rest in peace.
Your struggle and your sacrifice will not be forgotten by the people of Tibbot, will not be forgotten by the Chinese people, and will not be forgotten by history.
Those of us who remain alive shall carry forward your legacy, overthrow tyranny, and restore the dignity and freedom of all the nations and peoples of China.
